Overview

Safe Life Defense, based out of Las Vegas, Nevada, is  a manufacturer of life-saving products such as body armor, first responder gear, tactical belts, and bulletproof vests. Having multiple dealers and stores, the client sought to enhance its e-commerce capabilities by transitioning from BigCommerce to a more customized WordPress platform. 

The goal was to implement Codup’s B2B WooCommerce solution (B2BWoo) to streamline their business operations, improve user experience, and enable more robust backend customizations. 

Challenges

Platform Limitations of BigCommerce​

Safe Life Defense faced significant limitations with BigCommerce's customization capabilities, scalability, and integration options. As the company expanded, the need for a more flexible solution became apparent, one that could support their evolving business needs and integrate seamlessly with various third-party plugins and custom solutions.

Complex B2B Processes and Sales Journey​

Multiple dealers, locations and a diverse range of clientele meant intricate B2B processes, including custom pricing, tax exemptions, bulk ordering, and sales rep management system. This necessitated the need for a more robust, customizable, and scalable solution that could effectively manage and streamline these sophisticated B2B operations.

Solution

B2B eCommerce Portal Development

We set up a WooCommerce store and implemented our proprietary B2BWoo solution to add the required B2B eCommerce features that the client wanted. The client handled migrating their data from BigCommerce to our WooCommerce storefront and our team worked on adding the required feature set. 

 

Given the client’s large volume of data, our team heavily optimized the B2BWoo product and refactored several modules to avoid glitches and make it function seamlessly.  

Finally, given our client’s unique sales processes and requirements, our product was heavily customized and tailored to fit their requirements.

& Configuration

Dynamic Pricing

Implemented and configured features like dynamic pricing, custom registration forms, price visibility control, and role-based requests for quotes (RFQ).

Catalog Visiblity

Implemented and configured features like controlling product visibility based on user roles to ensure only authorized users can view certain products or categories.

Product Tables

Implemented and configured features like bulk ordering capabilities, sortable columns, and the ability to add multiple products to quotes directly from the table.

Product Detail Sheets

We implemented the default features of the plugin which include creating a variation table, offering downloadable product detail sheets, setting minimum/maximum order quantities, and sample requests.

Company Account Management

Implemented and configured features like precise control over user roles and permissions, enabling the creation of specific roles like sales representatives.

Sales Rep Login

We implemented the default features of the plugin which include tools for sales representatives to manage their assigned customers, place orders on their behalf, and offer custom quotes and discounts.

Feature Enhancements and Customizations

To further enhance the functionality of Safe Life Defense’s eCommerce platform, Phase 2 of the project focused on implementing advanced customizations and feature enhancements. 

These improvements aimed to streamline the B2B processes, provide a better user experience, and optimize backend operations for administrators and sales representatives.

Implementation of Tax Exemption Fields

We added tax exemption fields for company and sub-user profiles, integrating with Vertex to automate tax exemptions.

Enhanced Quote Management System

We improved the quote management system by integrating tax, shipping costs as well as discounts on quotes, and enabling PDF downloads of quotes.

Default Payment Option Configuration

We configured default payment options (credit card, PayPal, ACH) for B2B company and customer accounts.

Simplified Global Discount Setting

We simplified the discount process by enabling sales representatives to apply global discounts to entire quotes through a single field.

Sales Rep Master Account and Sub-Accounts

We enabled master accounts for sales reps to add and manage sub-accounts, with access to quotes and orders created by child accounts.

Quote Activity Logs for Admin Tracking

We added activity logs for quotes, allowing admins to track changes, edits, and status updates with timestamps and user details.

Purchase Order Field and Upload Feature

We introduced a field for capturing PO numbers and an upload feature for PO PDFs during the quote acceptance process.

Company Signup Form Enhancements

We enhanced the company signup form with multiple document upload capabilities and additional fields for complete address information and accounting details.

Custom Demo Order Field and Automated Alerts

We introduced custom fields for demo orders and automated alerts to track and manage demo order evaluations and returns.
