Overview

Magnum 4000 is a North American manufacturer of Hot Water Pressure washers. Their machines are engineered, designed, and manufactured in-house to be durable and serviceable. They had two major markets: US and Canada and this is where the challenge lay.

Complex International Pricing

Managing the same product catalog for both Canada and the US with different pricing structures due to currency fluctuations, taxes, and shipping costs came with its share of technical complexity.

Complex Shipping Rules

Managing shipping costs manually or with generic rates could have resulted in inaccurate shipping charges, either overcharging or undercharging customers, leading to customer dissatisfaction or losses for the business.

Missed Upselling Opportunities

The standard product detail page wasn't good enough for Magnum4000's offering. By not showing related products on the product detail page, they were missing out on opportunities to upsell.

Stranded on BigCommerce Basic Plan

The client needed features that were only available on the BigCommerce enterprise plan. Even if the client was ready to pay for the enterprise plan, it was only available for merchants that met certain criteria, which the client did not meet.

Product Page Customization
with Add ons

We customized the product detail pages to include add-ons as upsell opportunities. By implementing conditional logic, we made certain add-ons mandatory based on product selection, ensuring customers purchased complementary products when required.


Additionally, we integrated dynamic pricing, so whenever add-ons were selected, the total price automatically updated in real-time, creating a transparent and user-friendly experience. This not only boosted sales but also eliminated confusion over product pricing for customers, improving conversion rates.

Dynamic Shipping Calculation

Magnum 4000 had complex shipping requirements based on customer location and shipping zones, which was challenging to manage in BigCommerce’s multi-storefront architecture. By leveraging available tools and creatively problem-solving, we implemented a dynamic shipping solution. Shipping costs were automatically calculated based on the customer’s selection of location and shipping zone, ensuring accuracy and a smooth checkout process. This not only enhanced the customer experience but also streamlined the company’s shipping operations.

Multi-Storefront with multi pricing

The client needed distinct pricing for different regions (Canada and the US), but BigCommerce’s enterprise-level Price Lists feature wasn’t available to them as they were on the basic plan with no option to upgrade to enterprise as they were not meeting the criteria for enterprise plan.

We created a custom multi-storefront solution that allowed one backend to feed two storefronts. This setup enabled them to maintain separate product pricing for each region without complicating backend management. It gave the client full control over pricing for each storefront, ensuring they could meet regional demands without compromising profitability.
